Mary Arrington Douglas was born September 12, 1935 in Meridian, Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Dr. George Lamar Arrington, Sr. and the late Mary Wilbourn Arrington. She attended local Meridian schools and went on to attend and graduate from Randolph Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, VA where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. On April 25,1964, Mary married James Ray Douglas, formerly of Brookhaven, Mississippi, with whom she raised three children in Baton Rouge. Deeply involved in many local activities, Mary was a long term member of the Junior League of Baton Rouge, PEG, The Philastoria, Reviewers, the Potpourri Club, and the Colonial Dames of America. In addition to these activities, Mary enjoyed playing Bridge and working at Paper N' Things. Mary was an active and long standing member of the First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge, having served in several leadership positions including the Pulpit Committee which called the current Senior Minister of the church, a monthly Ladies Bible Study, and an annual Christmas party for the ladies of her circle. Mary is survived by her beloved husband of fifty years, James "Jim" Douglas of Baton Rouge; her brother, Dr. George Lamar Arrington, Jr., of Meridian, Mississippi; her three children: Mary "Molly" Arrington Douglas of New Orleans, Anne Douglas Solomon and husband The Rev. Jim Solomon of Newtown, Connecticut, as well as James Ray Douglas, Jr. and wife Jennifer Garrett Douglas of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren: Amanda Mary Solomon and Ashley Douglas Solomon of Newtown, CT and also Jamison Rae Douglas and Braeden Garrett Douglas of Baton Rouge. The family will receive guests at the First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 10am followed by a service of celebration of life at noon. Interment will be private at a later date as determined by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge in Mary's honor.
