Marie Sumerlin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at the age of 93. She was born in Maurice, LA and was a retired nurse Our Lady of the Lake hospital in Baton Rouge, LA. Maw Maw Bea was an avid reader. Her favorite book was the Bible and she read it from cover to cover numerous times throughout her life. She loved to cook, bake and share recipes. Watching sports of any kind, especially LSU, was one of her favorite pastimes. She enjoyed fishing at False River, and she could make any flower bloom. Her nurturing spirit and kind heart will be missed by all who loved her. Maw Maw Bea is survived by her sons, Freddie Sumerlin (Kara) and Ronald Sumerlin (Debbie); nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Grace Rogers; son-in-law, Hank Henagan; and a host of other loving family members. She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Sumerlin; daughter, Connie Sumerlin Henagan; son, Timmy Sumerlin; granddaughter, Stacey Henagan Hornsby; great-granddaughter, Haven Henagan; parents, Henry and Edna Thibodeaux; and brothers, Alex and John Thibodeaux. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Monday, February 20, 2023, from 10am until the time of funeral services at 12pm. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Adam Sumerlin, Scott “Bucky” Hornsby, William and Walker Arbuthnot, Joseph “Wrigley” Stewart and AJ Vicknair. Honorary pallbearers are Freddie Torres and Hayes and Hudson Henagan. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors at Lane Memorial Hospital ICU unit, Pointe Coupee General Skill and Rehab Facility and Pointe Coupee Hospice and Homebound.
