Margaret Ann Rushing Huckabee

Margaret Ann Rushing Huckabee, a long-time resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from natural causes. Margaret Ann was born in 1928 in Bogalusa, LA to the Reverend Sam Rushing and Alice Magee Rushing. When she was 9 years old she accepted Jesus as her Savior during VBS in Bunkie, LA. In 1939, the family moved to Baton Rouge when Rev. Rushing accepted the job as pastor at Istrouma Baptist Church. She graduated from Istrouma High School and attended Louisiana College for three years and then graduated from LSU in 1950 and began teaching. In March of 1951, Margaret Ann married the love of her life Joseph "Huck" Huckabee, Jr.  Shortly after they built their home where they would live until both of their passings. Margaret Ann taught Science and Home Economics at Istrouma Junior High School. In a career shift, she became the counselor at Sharon Hills Elementary, where she worked until her retirement. During her time in the field of education, she touched the lives of thousands of teachers and students. In 1966, after the death of Margaret Ann's mother-in-law, the Lord spoke to her and gave her a hunger for the Word that steadily increased, and a desire to pray more, leading her to become a prayer warrior. Over the years, she became known for her scripture cards that she made and handed out at while shopping, or visiting doctor's offices and hospitals. She leaves behind a legacy in the family she built with "Huck:" one son, David Huckabee and his wife Cindy; one daughter, Marjo Easley and her husband Jim; three grandchildren, Marja Liner and her husband Shawn; Jonathan Huckabee and his wife Haley; and Joshua Huckabee; and two great-grandchildren, her namesake Margaret Ann "Maggie" Liner and Mason Liner. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the church family at Foster Road Baptist Church and Istrouma Baptist Church, and especially to Pastor Huey Moak and Pastor Mike Morris for presiding over the services. Visitation will be Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home at 11000 Florida Blvd. from 1:00-2:30pm and services will be at 2:30. Honorary pallbearers are Jonathan Huckabee, Joshua Huckabee, Mason Liner, Shawn Liner, Clay Norwood and George Crosby. Margaret Ann had a heart for proclaiming the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
