Kathleen Noel Smith was born on December 24, 1951 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She passed away on March 11, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Kathy grew up in Shreveport and graduated from C. E. Byrd High School. She pursued her love of education at Louisiana State University and graduated with a BS in Education. She remained in Baton Rouge for her entire adult life. Kathy was an active member of Kappa Delta sorority and an avid supporter of the LSU Tigers.
Kathy began sharing her passion for education by teaching middle school science and math for many years. She was a caring and devoted leader in the East Baton Rouge Parish School system serving as Assistant Principal, Principal, and Assistant Superintendent. She continued her education at LSU and achieved a Masters Degree in Administration and her Superintendent Certification. A natural born leader, Kathy was well-respected and loved by all with whom she worked.
Kathy was a “Christmas baby” and had a special gift for making the season even more magical. She will be remembered as a caregiver and kindhearted person who was a friend to all. She was patient and thoughtful and a wonderful counselor to her friends and family. She was a loving and devoted mother. She loved her children with all her heart, and she viewed them as her greatest accomplishments. She loved being Gaga to her many grandchildren, she attended countless dance recitals, class plays, soccer tournaments and grandparent day celebrations. She was also a second mother to many nieces and nephews as they made their way through LSU and hosted countless cousin’s dinners and birthday parties for all. She was a devoted Smith sister and loved spending time with her three sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carolyn and Billy Smith, and Walter Louis Comeaux, II. Left to cherish her memory are her children Neila Comeaux Stone (Calvert), Walter Louis Comeaux, III, (Kirsten Gant Comeaux), Brian Curtis Comeaux and Allyson Comeaux Saia (Sam); and grandchildren Neila Camille, Andrew, and Ollie Stone, Anna and Graves Saia, Julie, Amelia, Walt, and Madeline Comeaux and Brewer, Boone, Greta and Hadley Gant; sisters Nancy Walker (Steve), Carolyn Fryar (Bob), and Marilyn Prothro (Craig) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of dear friends who held her hands through this journey called life. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. David Hanson, Dr. Konstantin Kovtun, the nurses and staff of Mary Bird Perkins and Sister Dulce and all her volunteers for their guidance, love and support.
A visitation will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 10:30 am with a funeral mass immediately following at 12:00pm.
A graveside service and burial will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana at 10:00am.
