John Bearden Williams passed peacefully into heaven on Monday May, 29, 2023. He was born in Alexandria, LA on October 17, 1936. He grew up in Colfax and graduated from Northwestern State University and then Louisiana State University Law School in 1962. He practiced law until he retired in 2006. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Baton Rouge where he served as a deacon, assisted with the deaf ministry, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served as assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 3. He served on many boards, including Scripture Memory Fellowship and the Restless Legs Foundation. He also served in the U.S. Marine Reserves. He is preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Lillie B. Williams and brother James N. Williams (Bonnie). He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gretchen, his children Stephen (Janet), Richard, and Cynthia (Aaron Dashiell), and grandchildren Jack, Martin, Scott, Mary, and Haley. Special thanks to his doctors and caregivers, including Dr. Michael McCarthy, Dr. John Godke, Luciana Ross, Jim Simon, Renee Anderson, Belinda Floyd, and many others through the years. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Baton Rouge on Saturday June 3 at 1:30 pm, with visitation beginning at 11:30am. 529 Convention St, Baton Rouge, LA 70802. Burial to immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
