A devoted father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, and husband for 53 years, John E. Hood passed away peacefully Saturday morning, Nov. 26, 2022, at the age of 89. He was born at Angola, where his family supervised the farming. His family later moved to St. Francisville and then to Baton Rouge. John moved to Central in 1985 with his wife, Patsy. He was a veteran of the Marine Corp in the Korean War. He was a maintenance supervisor at Stauffer Chemical/Rhone-Poulenc/Rhodia for many years. John loved family weekends in Grand Isle, traveling throughout the country with his wife in their camper, spoiling his grandchildren, tinkering with anything he could “fix,” and telling corny jokes. He leaves behind a family with so many great memories of time spent together. Survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Helen and A.J. Phillips; son, David Hood; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jay and Tasha Phillips, Nicole and Charlie Brumfield, and Matthew and Pam Phillips; and four great-grandchildren, Wesley Phillips, Harper and Theo Phillips, and Aubree Brumfield. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Patsy; mother, Vervin Hood; and brother, Shyrigh Hood. Special thanks to all the individuals who showed such care and compassion for him during the past three months. John’s family would like to especially thank Jerry Lee Duplantis for his love and care over the years, including often bringing over more-than-enough of Debbie’s delicious cooking. Visitation on Thursday, Dec. 1, 5:30-7:30pm at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd. Visitation resumes at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Rd, on Friday, Dec. 2, at 9:30am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am, with interment to follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
