JOHN DALTON CANTEY, Sr.June 6, 1921 - February 5, 2015A loving husband, father, brother and grandfather he was born June 6, 1921 in Morganza, Louisiana to David Oliver Cantey, Sr. and Lelia Marchand Cantey. A long time resident of Baton Rouge passed away at the age of 93 on February 5, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Fannie Merril, Eloise Wilkinson and Bonnie Fugler; and brother, David Cantey, Jr. He was raised in New Roads and Port Allen, graduating from Port Allen High School in 1939. He started working in the shipyards of New Orleans before settling in Baton Rouge. He worked for Ethyl Corporation and began his own construction business in the late 1940's. During his lengthy career as a contractor, he completed over 150 commercial, residential and remodeling projects in the Baton Rouge and surrounding areas. He was also a land developer, overseeing the construction of several subdivisions in East Baton Rouge and Ascension Parishes. He was a member of the Baton Rouge Home Builders Association and a parishioner of St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Ella Sue Bishop Cantey; his children, Dee Ann Cantey Boudreaux and her husband, Melvin Joseph of Buffalo, Tx.and John "Jay" Dalton Cantey, Jr. and his wife, Deborah Clary Cantey of Prairieville, La.; two grandchildren, Jessie Bishop Beringer of College Station, Tx. and Dustin Forrest Cantey of Prairieville, La. Pallbearers are Melvin Boudreaux, Dustin Cantey, David Cantey III, Michael Roy Fugler, C.R. Jones, Mark Evans and Dewayne Sutherland. Visitation will be held Saturday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church from 10:00am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Duhe'. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge. Rabenhorst Funeral Home East is in charge of the arrangements.
