""As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you." Isaiah 66:13 Janet was born July 28, 1935 in New Orleans and passed away peacefully on October 10, 2018. She spent her 83 years in this life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, daughter, sister and friend. Through hard work, Janet earned the position as one of the first female Postmasters for the United States Postal Service in Denham Springs. She was always uplifting and looked out for others. She shared her smile with everyone she met until the end. Janet's life was centered around her family and her faith. She and her husband Justin worked many years sharing God's love through Engaged Encounter, Marriage Encounter, and Retrouvaille. She was a devout and active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and later returned to St. Jude Church in Baton Rouge. Janet held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. They were truly the sparkle in "Nana's" eyes. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia "Tootie" Cook (Bertell); son, Kris Justin Fernandez (Tricia); grandchildren, Justin "Andy" Day (Georgia), Presley, and Charley J Fernandez; great grandson, Jacob Justin Day; Milton, who she considered an adopted grandson; nieces and nephews, Sue, Jimmy, Michael, and Sunny, her best friend and confidant. Janet is preceded in death by her husband Justin "Choo Choo" Fernandez; sister, Shirley, and brother, John. Visitation will be Saturday, October 13, 2018, at St. Jude Catholic church from 8:15 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am. Entombment will follow in Greenoaks Mausoleum. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Special thanks to the staff at St. James Place for their care and compassion.
