Helga Maria Saalfeld Rivero, born April 14, 1930 in Wolkramshausen, Germany, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA after a short, yet severe illness. She immigrated to America, became a Naturalized American Citizen in 1956, and married Hector Manuel Rivero on July 27, 1963. Working in the Hotel Food&Beverage industry in New York and North Carolina before settling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana as Restaurant Manager at both the former Sheraton and thereafter at the Baton Rouge Hilton Hotel during the mid-1970's to mid-80's. She was a "people person", never failing to warmly greet people she didn't know. Helga left a memorable impression on all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her mother, Berta Maria Saalfeld Krause and her husband, Hector. Survivors in Germany include her son, Gerd Saalfeld and his wife Brigitte; grandson, Marko Saalfeld and his wife Nadja; two great grandchildren, Maximilian and Lilly Saalfeld; and sister, Marion Baerschneider. American relatives by marriage are her in-laws, Charles Rivero and wife Raquel of Miami Lakes, Florida; and their children and Jorge Rivero with wife Mary Ruth of Mound, Texas and their children. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, 70815 on Saturday, April 16, 2106 from 10:00-11:00 with the funeral service shortly thereafter. Interment will be in Wolkramshausen, Germany. The family wishes to thank the medical care team at Our Lady of the Lake SICU, the kind and caring nursing staff and Ms. Terry Sanders, P.A. of Lake Senior Services, for their attention to her during her illness.
