George “Kim” Johnson passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to George H. Johnson and Kathryn Simmons Johnson on August 14, 1942. Kim was raised in Reeves, Louisiana, but spent most of his life in Baton Rouge. He was a graduate of University High School and Louisiana State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, the ROTC, and met the love of his life, Linda Stephens. Kim and Linda were married on June 10, 1965, and began their married life together in Germany where Kim was a Captain in the United States Army, serving as an intelligence company commander during the Cold War. Kim and Linda enjoyed travelling throughout Europe before moving back to Baton Rouge upon Kim’s honorable discharge from the Army in 1968 to start their family.
Kim went on to graduate from the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center. Kim had a varied legal practice, which included stints in private practice, as well as public service as an assistant attorney general and assistant United States attorney. Kim also served as general counsel of the Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement System and the Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association. He later caught the entrepreneurial bug and founded an international technology company, where he worked for over a decade until his retirement.
Kim was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church, where he was very involved with the Rings and Ivy Sunday School class. Kim was an avid traveler and reader who enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, flyfishing, photography, and taking scenic drives. His adventures and love of nature are captured in his cherished collection of photographs.
Kim was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife, Linda Stephens Johnson; his sister-in-law, Mona Stephens Shaw, and brothers-in-law, Ronnie Stephens and John Shaw. He is survived by his children, Scott (Karli), Erin Johnson Lievens (Paige), and Laura Johnson Monteilh (Paul); grandchildren, Murphy, Cecile, and Rose Johnson; Tanner Wilson; Stella and Remy Lievens; and Katherine Monteilh; nephews, nieces, and countless friends.
Kim will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a smart and calm problem solver, and a kind and caring friend. He will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home in Downtown Baton Rouge on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will take place at Port Hudson National Cemetery.
