Retired Master Sargent Frank Richard Spooner, Sr, a resident of Baton Rouge and native of Oscar, Louisiana (Pointe Coupee Parish) transitioned from this life on Saturday December 26, 2015. Frank Spooner enjoyed a long career in the United States Air Force until retirement in 1977. After retirement he began a second career with the United States Postal Services in Baton Rouge. He was passionate about social justice issues and was active in his church and community organizations. He was an ardent chess player, a lifelong serious reader and a sports fan of the Southern University Jaguar Nation baseball and football teams, Louisiana State University baseball team and the New Orleans Saints. Frank was a graduate of New Roads High School – Class of 1956 and the University of Southern Illinois. He leaves to cherish his memories children—Pamela Jeanpierre, Deborah L. Muhammad (Daryl C.), Michael Harrison - Spooner, all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dr. Frank Richard Spooner, Jr. (Kelly), of Detroit, Michigan; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Gloria Spooner, Carolyn Ephron Sambo, Rosemary Raby and Lucien Ephron (Brenda), all of Baton Rouge; Ernest Spooner, Jr (Minnesota). His long-time companion Joyce Colbert-Forrest. Aunts Rosemary Spooner Hall of Baton Rouge and Betty Nelson Wallace of Houma, LA. A host of cousins, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Visitation will be on Wednesday January 6, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Greenoaks Funeral Home at 9595 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA. Funeral Service will be on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge, 8470 Goodwood Boulevard Baton Rouge, LA. Service will be conducted by Reverend Steve Crump. Interment will follow in Louisiana National Cemetery, Zachary, LA. In lieu of flowers, Frank asks friends and family to make donations to the Lung Cancer Society of Baton Rouge and the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge.
