The family of Eileen K. Dunand is deeply saddened to share the news of her death on September 17, 2023 at The Carpenter House, St. Joseph’s Hospice in Baton Rouge, LA. She was 71 years old. A native of Baton Rouge, and a long-time resident of Crowley, LA before returning, Eileen suffered complications due to deteriorating health.
Eileen was born on September 21, 1951, in New Orleans, LA. She was the second of four children born to Dr. Paul Francis and Marie Louise “Sully” Kavanagh of Baton Rouge. An avid reader from an early age, Eileen voraciously continued the pastime until she could no longer. She was the author and steward of loving and nurturing homes, initially for her husband and son in Crowley and eventually to include her grandchildren in Baton Rouge. Eileen’s care and attention touched all throughout her immediate and extended family. She derived immense joy from word puzzles, trivia and topical debate and eagerly anticipated the arrival of Christmas each year. Sacrificing of herself to provide meticulous decoration, thoughtful presents in pristine wrapping and delicious meals all nourished her inner child, much to the delight of those fortunate enough to behold and partake of the joyous spectacle. She will be forever loved and sorely missed.
Eileen was preceded in death by both parents and her brother Neil Kavanagh of Ball, LA. She is survived by her husband, Richard Dunand and two brothers, Paul Kavanagh of Baton Rouge and David Kavanagh of New Orleans; her son, Jason Dunand, and granddaughters Caroline Dunand and Julianne Dunand all of Baton Rouge. Funeral services will be provided by Rabenhorst in Baton Rouge and Eileen will be laid to rest among her late relatives at a graveside service in Metairie, LA.
Relatives and friends are invited to The Chapel of Rabenhorst Funeral home, 825 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA 70802, for a visitation beginning at 10:30AM until the funeral service at 12:30PM. An entombment is to follow at Metairie Cemetery.
