"Dr. Jack K. Nelson, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2018 surrounded by his family. Jack was born on September 14, 1932 in Conrad, Montana to Indor Tillman and Bonnie Woollam Nelson. He grew up in Valier, Montana and received his bachelor's and Master's degrees from The University of Montana in Missoula. Following a stint in the air force, he received his PhD from The University of Oregon. He was a professor at LSU from 1962 to 1990 and at The University of Idaho from 1990 until his retirement in 1996. He was the author of multiple textbooks that are still in use in his field today. He is survived by the mother of his three children, Alice P. Nelson, brother Jimmy Nelson of Valier, Montana, daughter Polly Traxler (Larry) of Columbia, Missouri, son Dr. Scott Nelson (Penny), and daughter Kristi Brousseau (Brian) all of Baton Rouge, six grandchildren, Kimberly Traxler Mabrey (Greg), Kacey Traxler Richardson (Rusty), Dr. Steven Nelson (Molly), Dr. Daniel Nelson, Matthew Nelson, and Sarah Nelson, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Buddie Gae Goff. A private family service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church with internment in their columbarium.
