Dorothy Delores Herrera Cooper “Maw Dot” born November 28, 1930, age 94 was a beacon of love and warmth. She passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and a family forever touched by her joyful spirit. Known for her energetic dancing skills, and unwavering love and support, she was the heart of our family, always ready with a hug or a piece of advice. Her boundless love will continue to guide us through life’s journey. Dorothy worked most of her life in the retail industry. She finished her career working for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System in Food Services as a clerk. She also worked in the childcare center at Calloway’s Health Club for many years. She spent her free time watching her grandkids participate in many sports and activities. She participated in the Senior Olympics playing catcher for the softball team here in Louisiana. Dancing was one of her favorite activities, and she spent many Friday afternoons listening to Rockin’ Dopsie and Bag of Donuts at Live After 5. She had 4 wonderful children when married to Jewell C. Cooper.
She is survived by her daughters Theresa Rizzutto (James), Valerie “Deak” Cooper (Sarah Hensley), Jessica Beck (Mike) and a son Clay Cooper (Ashley). Grandchildren: Regina Rizzutto, Rachel “Niki” Smith (Chad), Joshua Sartin (Mae), Sheena Prelow (Marcus), Alyssa Cooper, Collin Cooper, and Carson Cooper. Great Grandchildren: Zoe Rizzutto, Cooper Smith, Julius Sartin, Braiden Sartin, Jasmine Sartin, Gabriel Sartin, Rocky Sartin, Malique Prelow, Skylar Prelow, and Makai Prelow and her entire Canadian crew of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: Parents Edward and Elizabeth Herrera, brother Edward Donald Herrera, grandson Kenneth Sartin, Jr. and longtime companion Meredith “Bud” Smith.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Sartin, Collin Cooper, Carson Cooper, Julius Sartin, Cooper Smith, and Malique Prelow.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Asia, Sandra and Pat for the love and support they gave while caring for Dorothy.
A visitation for Dorothy will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA, followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:00 AM. Dorothy will be laid to rest in Greenoaks Memorial Park, Baton Rouge, LA.
