To you know her was to love her! Hands-down, my most favorite teacher ever! Fifth grade Tanglewood elementary brand new school,  I think about 1971? At the end of the year she invited us all over to her house for a party, and we were to make sure we wore our Sunday Best. She was a woman of faith, grace, kindness, and unselfishness. She had the most beautiful smile.  The whole class was taught the song Faith of our
Fathers. Whenever that song is sung in mass, I sing a little louder, a little prouder and smile while thinking of her. Eternal rest grant unto to her oh Lord…Jeannine Simoneaux Cockerham.    ( little Shivonny” , she taught my sister Shivonne, two years earlier) this photo is from 2018.

What a beautiful picture of sweet Aunt Delores.  She always remembered everyone and always wanted to hug and say hello! She will be dearly missed!

My favorite memory of how blessed I was to have a big sis was in 1964 at LSU. I was a freshman and had a surprising day,  when I looked across my math class and saw Dolores sitting there! Oh my gosh! I had no idea that she had started college at the same time as I. After getting her three children old enough to be self sufficient somewhat, she was able to complete our dads dream that she attend college! Attend she did,  while performing all her home duties of wife and mom and went on to graduate and secure a teaching position in the East Baton Rouge Parish school system. She enjoyed that fulfilled dream of our dad’s for many years, and retired as a teacher most remembered and revered! 
Again, I was a lucky child to have her in my life! Rest in Peace dear sister! And always remember to Sing your Song! Heaven will be honored. 

Words I can still hear ringing in my ears from Gramaw as if she were around the corner
-Yooo-oooooo! (Anytime you holler for her)
-How-do? (Asking how you’re doing)
-Oh my cow!? (The classic statement of astonishment)
-Hi dawlin! (The classic greeting to all her “chillins”)
-the cackle laugh (you know the one, when she’s just tickled pink about something and her eyes squint shut and starts laughing aloud enough for the house to hear)
-Law-rahl (the classic summoning)
