Born on June 29, 1953, Darryl “Boo” “Unc” Gerard Baranco, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at the age of 69. He was a native and a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Darryl Baranco was renowned throughout the community as an individual that fiercely loved his family, his wife, children, grandchildren, and a son-in-law he considered his own son. Darryl was a man of great discernment. Many knew him as a stand-up guy. His influence and wisdom were a blessing to all he encountered. If he considered you family or a close friend, it is the undeniable consensus that you were quite fortunate. Darryl prided himself on his ability to establish meaningful relationships, on never meeting a stranger. In a world often frozen by conflict and ambiguity wherein morals are consistently tested, Darryl instilled in his children, whether by blood or circumstance, to make honorable choices. Darryl identified his happiness in the simple pleasures of life. It was no secret that he loved his Western television programs. He found joy in establishing himself as a Jack of All Trades. When he saw a need, an opportunity to fix something, he embraced mastering a new skill to ensure those that depended on him were cared for. He made the decision to be a leader when others lacked conviction. Whether it was spending time with Della, his treasured rottweiler, maintaining the upkeep of his many adventures in building aquariums, tending to his plants or making the best of his time with his grandchildren, Darryl never took life for granted. He was intimidating to some due to his tenacity and a hero to the remainder of us for never lacking the conviction to live his truth. He was simply one of a kind. Darryl is survived by his wife of 36 years, Geraldine; children, Darryl, Jr., Deena, and Dianna Baranco-Williams (Jasma); grandchildren, Jahleyia, Travis, Jahla, Devin, Brooklyn, Dayton, Ace, Dez, and Dior; mother, Mary Eugenia Baranco; siblings, June Baranco Gumbel, Mignon Baranco Fontenette and Christophor Baranco; and a host of other loving family members and friends. Darryl is preceded in death by father, Joseph Samuel Baranco, Sr.; and brother, Joseph Samuel Baranco, Jr. Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2250 Main St., Baton Rouge, LA, on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 10am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all family and friends that have reached out in one way or another and also to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center & Audubon Hospice for all of their service and care. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.greenoaksfunerals.com
