Colleen Peak, of Baton Rouge, LA, departed this earth peacefully to reunite with her Lord, parents, brother and sister on July 30, 2022. Colleen was a graduate of Walker High School in 1968 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, two Masters Degrees from Louisiana State University and a +30 Reading Certification. She faithfully served the community for over 35 years as both a teacher and counselor in the East Baton Rouge School System, retiring several years ago.
Colleen was a happily independent woman throughout her life and was always up for a good time, whether it be a celebration, an excuse to dance, or a movie. She was the consummate “cool aunt” to multiple generations of nieces and nephews. Known by many as “Nanny”, she loved every child of the family unconditionally with her entire heart and was generous not only in her “tender loving care” for them but also in her thoughts and prayers. Her taste in music and cars was impeccable. She was a devout Catholic who unrelentingly flooded the heavens with prayer on behalf of her many family members…for their safety, health and well-being as well as their hopes and dreams.
Perhaps the greatest testament to her life is that she was always more: more than a daughter; more than a sister; more than an aunt; more than a cousin; more than a friend. She always seemed to give more than you could imagine she had to give. A true original, Colleen was a lifelong delight to her large, closely knit family of cousins and friends. She will be dearly missed.
Colleen joins her parents, Douglas and Mary Rita Peak of Walker; her brother, T. Douglas Peak and wife Faye Peak of Walker; and her sister, Katherine Peak Jackson of Baton Rouge.
Colleen is survived by nieces Karla Peak McLaurin, Cheryl Peak Bourg and Don Bourg, Regina “Jeannie” Peak Rodriguez and Kerry Rodriguez; nephews J. Konrad Jackson and Sarah C. Jackson, J. Kincaid Jackson and Amy M. Jackson, J. Kirby Jackson and Koetting B. Jackson; great-nieces and great-nephews Jeremy Pendarvis, Chase McLaurin, Brittany Leblanc, Blake McLaurin, Ridge Bourg, Grace Jackson, Adelaide Jackson, Sydney Devillier, Alexandra Jackson, Henry Jackson, Karter Jackson, Charles Jackson, Sadie Jackson and Sutton Jackson.
Colleen’s legacy will also be carried on by her beloved Peak, Scivicque and Chiarulli cousins, her brother-in-law Robert G. Jackson, and dear friend Margaret Finch and family.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 11, from 9 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy, 445 Marquette Ave., Baton Rouge.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to Our Lady of Mercy Traditions for Tomorrow Campaign and the Catholic Education Foundation.
