In the early morning hours of January 6, 2013, Cecil Leon Landry Sr. passed peacefully at his home in St. Francisville, LA knowing his beloved wife Margaret awaited his arrival in heaven along with his son James; daughters, Jan and Laura; his mother and father Cecile Decareaux Landry and Guy Landry; and his dear brother, Ronnie Landry. Cecil’s life began November 19, 1928 in Garyville, LA. It was a full life with moments of extreme joy and times of great sadness and through it all Cecil remained true to and found comfort in his Catholic faith. After graduating from Juluis Freyhan High in St. Francisville, he went on to serve in the Unites States Air Force until the age of 22. In 1953, Cecil earned a degree in Accounting and Business Administration at Southeastern University where he proudly served as President for the SEU student body, Kappa Delta Tau, and LA Federation of University and Colleges. He was a lifetime member of the SEU Alumni. It was here that he met the love of his life Margaret LeBlanc. They were married November 2, 1952 and preceded to raise a family of six beautiful children. Cecil was employed by Exxon Refinery in the accounting department then later along with Ronnie and Beverly Landry they continued in his father’s business at Landry Saw File on Choctaw Dr. in Baton Rouge. In 1984 Cecil retired to Lake Rosemound where he served as Fire Chief in the local volunteer department. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church provided Cecil with dear friends and a place of solace where he worshiped through prayer, service and good works. Always a gentleman, his kind nature and abundant wisdom will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Cecil is survived by four of his children, Margaret “Peg” Mercer, Cecil Leon and wife Gaye, Leo Landry, and Jeffery Landry; eight grandchildren, Jason Gleason, Bobby Joe Landry and wife Lindsey, Carmelite Landry, Aaron Mercer, Melanie Landry, Dustin Landry, Whitney Landry and Ethan Landry; Eight great grandchildren; sister, Joyce Mashburn; and sister in law Beverly Landry. Services to celebrate Cecil Leon Landry’s blessed life will be held at Mount Carmel Catholic Church Thursday, January 10, 2013. Visitation will be held at 9am and mass of Christian burial at 11am. Interment and a family graveside service will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to Baton Rouge Alzheimer’s Association in Cecil’s memory.
