Carol “Jeannie” Jean Champagne Latil passed away peacefully at home, on Friday, September 16, 2022, at the age of 81, holding her daughter’s hand. She was born in New Orleans, LA and was raised in Harahan, LA. Jeannie married the love of her life, Louis, and together they built a life for themselves in Zachary, LA. She was the first woman on the Home Rule Charter and the first woman elected to the Zachary City Council. After moving to Baton Rouge, she became an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and served as the president of the Single Seniors Ministry. Jeannie is survived by her daughter, Kim Landry (Bryan); grandchildren, Bryan Landry, Jr. (Kelsey), Brennan Landry (Taylor Vince), Blake Latil (Rachel), Louis Latil, III, and Rachel Adelle Latil; great-grandchildren, Avery, Liam, and Isabella (coming soon) Landry, Louis IV, Brinley Latil, Gage and Gatlynn Kelly; sister, Barbara Champagne Morris (Sergio); and a host of other family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis; son, Louis, Jr.; infant son; parents, Leopold “Pope” and Lucille; and brother, Leo. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, from 8:30am until the time of funeral services at 10am. Burial will immediately follow at Azalea Rest Cemetery, Old Scenic Hwy/LA-964, Zachary, LA. Pall bearers will be Bryan Jr. and Brennan Landry, Blake and Louis, III Latil, and Steven and Kenneth Morris. Honorary pall bearers will be Louis Latil, IV, Reid Mendoza, Sergio Morris, Mickey Ackerman, Bret Lovetro, and Charles Crochet.
