Blake grew up in New Orleans and graduated from Holy Cross High School. He studied at LSU before marrying Ruby Nell Roberts in 1956. Their sixty-four year adventure began –most of it based from their home in Baton Rouge. After finishing his service in the U.S. Navy, where they lived in California, they moved back to Baton Rouge. He finished his career as an executive for the ODECO energy company.
After retirement, his focus was on home and family. There were gatherings for birthdays and holidays with great meals usually prepared by Blake. There were international trips, hunting and fishing excursions, LSU sports, an impeccable lawn and friendly, supportive neighbors. Their grandchildren Caroline and Abby came late in their lives; yet, they found ways to attend plays, games, performances and host overnight stays. When Ruby’s health failed, he was devoted to her care, even though he struggled with his own health issues.
He was preceded by his parents, Charles Blake Sr. and Lydia (De Latte) Collins; and, his adoring wife of 64 years, Ruby Nell (Roberts) Collins.
He is survived by daughter Shawn Collins and her daughter Abigail; and, son Larry Collins, his wife Susan and their daughter Caroline; first-cousin Mike Collins and the last of a long line of pet dogs, Ziva.
Blake will be forever cherished by his family and friends. An outdoor service will be held at Greenoaks Memorial in Baton Rouge on Friday, April 22, at 10:00 am.
