Blanche Rutland Hamilton, wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, friend and teacher, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 30th 2024. She was born to Roy A. Rutland and Beaulah Montgomery Rutland in Hattiesburg, MS. On December 14, 1929. She grew up in north Baton Rouge and was a graduate of Istrouma High School in 1950. She married the love of her life, James F. “Fred” Hamilton and they spent nearly 50 years together before his passing the day before Easter in 2000. In 1968 she returned to the college life earning a bachelor degree in elementary education yet continued her studies, all while teaching full time, receiving her Master’s Degree in secondary education and supervision. She spent 30 years teaching in East Baton Rouge Parish and by our counting she educated over 3000 students. She was very active in her church and was a lifelong member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church.
Blanche is proceeded in death by her husband; Fred Hamilton, Parents Roy A. Rutland and Beaulah Montgomery Rutland, Siblings; Roy Rutland Jr., Phyllis Lesserre and Charles Rutland.
She is survived by her son James R. “Dickie” Hamilton and his wife Jane, her daughter, Susie Eubanks and her husband Tommy, and another son Mike Hamilton. Grandchildren Andy, Leigh, Joe, Mark and Hagen. Great-grandchildren Nick, Amelia, Tyler, Alexis, Cazes, Landry, Beau and Murphy.
We wish to thank the fantastic staff of West Towne Assisted Living in Port Allen, LA. for the love and comfort they gave our Mom. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA. 70815 on Thursday May 9th 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, May 8th from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and again Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
