Barbara Cucullu Keaton, 86, passed away the morning of September 16, 2017. Barbara has been a resident of Baton Rouge for the past 53 years. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was known by many as "CuCu" or as her grandchildren called her "Mere". She was a graduate of Hotel Dieu in New Orleans, where she received her nursing degree. She spent most of her life working as a registered nurse, serving and helping others, until she retired from Woman's Hospital in 1996. She enjoyed playing bridge, crocheting, and was a wonderful cook. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, as well as her great grandchildren, who were the light of her life, especially in her older years. She was an active member of Jefferson United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where she enjoyed spending time with other members of her S.A.L.T. Sunday school class. Throughout her life she enjoyed helping others and was proud to be a nurse. She will be dearly missed by all of her friends and family. Barbara is survived by her 3 children Mary Ann Spencer Bernhard of Baton Rouge, James Edward Keaton Jr. and wife Carol of Tampa, and Karen Keaton Richard and husband Glenn of Baton Rouge. Her grandchildren Darby Haynes Stewart and husband Jonathan of Baton Rouge and Karol Keaton Shepherd and husband Jon of Tampa. Her 4 great grandchildren, Jon Shepherd Jr., Emery Stewart, Avery Stewart, and Konrad Shepherd. As well as, Meagan Gomez, her sister in law, Ethel Cucullu, and many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her husband, James Edward Keaton Sr., her parents Georgie Powers Cucullu and Felix Tabary Cucullu Sr., as well as her brother, Felix Tabary Cucullu Jr., sister Mae Annette Toye and husband Jack Toye. The family would also like to thank her care givers for their outstanding services over the past few years; she truly appreciated all of you: Jennifer Pearson, Brittany Jackson, Tracey Smith, Cortanna Beechem, Johnell Pearson, Chona York, Kizzy Williams, Erin Dennis, Lashondra Harris, Sheka York, Elsie McLean, and Longet Price. Also, her hospice nurse and aid, Jennifer Howell and Regina Cobb, along with the entire staff at Amedisys Hospice and Ollie Steele Burden Manor. Visitation will be held on September 20th, 2017 from 5pm to 8pm at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815. Funeral services will be held on September 21st, 2017 at 10 am at Jefferson United Methodist Church, 10328 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70809 and will be followed by burial services at Greenoaks Memorial Park. There will be a reception following the burial at Greenoaks Reception Center.
