"Gus Dalton died peacefully at home on June 25, 2018. Dr. Dalton was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on April 9, 1936 to Dr. and Mrs. George Dewey Dalton. He is survived by his wife Linda Ward-Dalton, his sons George D. Dalton, II (wife Dr. Xanthia Dalton and daughter Zoe) of Raleigh-Durham, NC, and Christopher G. Dalton (son Liam) of New Orleans, LA. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Dalton. Gus graduated from Portsmouth Abbey School in 1953 with high honors, Harvard University with Master's Honors in 1957, and cum laude from Tuft's University School of Medicine in 1961. He completed his internship and residency at the New England Center Hospital, the Medical College of Augusta, and the Buffalo General Hospital. Dr. Dalton then served as a medical officer in the United States Navy before beginning his civilian practice. He was Board Certified in Allergy and Immunology and moved to Baton Rouge where he practiced until his retirement in 1999. He was a former president of the Louisiana Allergy Society, a member of the American Academy of Allergy, and authored multiple articles for publication in professional journals. Dr. Dalton also served on the board of O'Brien House and was a member of the Baton Rouge Rotary Club. Dr. Dalton's most remarkable attributes were his incredible intellect and ability to converse with anyone. Gus was an avid golfer (with a "hole in one" to prove it), voracious reader, and tireless world traveler. He had an incredible appetite for art, literature, and fine conversation. In addition, he was a devout parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Baton Rouge and an enthusiastic, lifelong Red Sox fan. His family offers heartfelt and endless thanks to the many fellow physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers who cared for him, especially to his personal caregivers, Carlene Hollins and Terry McPipe, and to Amedysis Hospice Baton Rouge. A visitation will be held at the St. Joseph Cathedral on Saturday, June 30, 2018, beginning at 9:00 am until the funeral mass at 11:00 am. A reception will follow at 12:00 pm in the church's Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the LSU Speech Department, the Cathedral of St. Joseph, the Portsmouth Abbey School, the Cancer Society, Amedysis Hospice Baton Rouge, or the charity of your choice.
