Arthur Douglas Salmon, III. was born July 11, 1939 in Memphis, TN. to Jane Adams Salmon and Arthur Douglas Salmon, Jr. He graduated from Memphis Central High School, attended Washington and Lee University, Lexington, VA. where he was a proud member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He graduated with a BS in Political Science from the University of Memphis.
Shortly thereafter he enrolled in officer training school, and in November, 1962 was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1966 at the rank of First Lieutenant serving as a weapons controller.
Employment took him to Baton Rouge where he worked for General Foods. He became a Commercial Realtor and was first associated with Parker Meade, Realtor before establishing his own firm, Doug Salmon Incorporated in 1979. He participated in seeing growth of Coursey Boulevard, Airline Highway and Florida Boulevard. Doug continued to enjoy his hobby of hunting, locally and in New Mexico. He was a 50- year member of the Baton Rouge Board of Realtors and First United Methodist Church. He was also very active in Goodwood Villa Civic Association.
Doug passed away peacefully with Alzheimer’s at Heritage Manor Nursing home. He leaves his wife Barbara to whom he was married for fifty-nine years as well as two children Ellen Zetzmann (Mark) of Old Metairie, Arthur (Art) Douglas Salmon IV (Jennifer) of Frisco, TX, one brother, Richard Salmon of Lyons, CO, one cousin, William (Bill) Fletcher Hurdle of Mansfield, OH and several nephews.
Services will be Wednesday, February 23rd at First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will be in the Parish Hall at 10:30 A.M. with service to follow at 11:30 A.M. in the main sanctuary. Burial services will begin at 1:00 P.M. at the Louisiana National Cemetery, Zachary, LA. Donations in lieu of flowers should be made to the First United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge, Washington and Lee University, Lexington, VA or a charity of donor’s choice.
