Ardith J. Leckey, born on October 11, 1945, in Waterloo, Iowa, passed away on November 28, 2024 at the age of 79. She graduated from LSU with a bachelor’s degree in music and worked at First United Methodist Baton Rouge for 53 years as the Administrative Assistant of Children, Youth, and Adult Education Ministries.
Ardith was a devoted Christian and member of First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge, Organist Guild, First United Methodist Choir, Lagniappe Country Walk to Emmaus, and Cajun Clickers. Most recently, Ardith played piano for FUMC offsite worship services at Williamsburg and Holly Court Assisted Living Communities, the Early Learning Center Chapel services, and Mangum Chapel UMC. She was also a faithful LSU Tiger fan.
Ardith is survived by her cousins, Cheryl Renwick, Brenda Miller, Debra Bauer (Keith), Susan Engelhardt (Scott), Bruce Hungerford (Tammy), Mark Hungerford, Greg Raecker (Rena), Marcia Fenton, and Tom Filiater (Susan); and numerous church family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul R. Leckey and Jeanette Raecker-Leckey Johnson; uncles, Robert Raecker (Sylvia) and Francis Filiater (Mary); and aunt, Kathryn Hungerford (Eldon).
A memorial gathering will be held at First United Methodist Church on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 10 am until memorial service at 11 am. Ardith will be laid to rest in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
