“God saw he was getting tired; and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around him and whispered ‘Come with me’. With tearful eyes we watched him suffer and saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating; hardworking hands to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.” Allen Joseph Roberts was born on June 12, 1951 in New Orleans, Louisiana and passed away on March 15, 2014 at his home in Baton Rouge at the age of 62. He was the owner and operator of Custom Floors by Allen. He served our country in the U.S. Army. He was a devoted and loyal grandfather to his granddaughters Allison and Emily, whom he cherished. Allen enjoyed sports especially the New Orleans Saints and the LSU Tigers. He loved his dogs Duke and Marie. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Roberts of 32 years; stepsons, Steven Edward Shirey and wife Marsha, Jason Edward Shirey; grandchildren, Allison and Emily Shirey; brothers, Daniel Roberts, Earl Roberts, Jr., and Larry Roberts; numerous nieces and nephews; and his “other mom”, Jeannie Latil. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Hazel Roberts; and sister, Elaine Roberts Revere. Pallbearers will be Jason Shirey, Larry Roberts, Bo Morris, Kenny Owens, Kevin Schneider, J.E. Shirey; two honorary pallbearers, Gene Schneider and Louis Latil, Jr. The family would like to acknowledge St. Michael Hospice as well as numerous friends and family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday March 19, 2014 from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Greenoaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow on the grounds of Greenoaks Memorial Park.
