Alice Hendry Brewer

Alice Hendry Brewer, born January 21, 1927, was a lifelong Baton Rouge resident. She succumbed to complications of advanced age and Parkinson's disease on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Landmark Nursing Home at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Patel; great granddaughter, Thea White; parents, Micajah M. Hendry and Halimah Cooley Hendry; sisters, Halimah H. Lofland and Josie H. Brown; and brothers, Malone H. Hendry and Carl W. Hendry (Carl passed away about 2 weeks ago). Alice is survived by her husband, Charles Herbert Brewer; and daughters, Ruth (Cookie) B. White and husband Ron, Linda B. Bourgeois and husband Clifford "Kip," and Judith B. Patel of New York. She dearly loved her grandchildren, Bradley S. White and wife Elizabeth of Surrey, ND, Melissa L. White, Micah M. Bourgeois and wife Jaimie of Baton Rouge, and Amanda Bourgeois and husband Blake Sanz of Denver, Co. She also has one living great grandson, Brayden M. Bourgeois and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and she loved them all. Alice was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was an active member of Istrouma Baptist Church before her declining health prevented her from attending. As a devoted stay at home mom, she spent her younger days as a chauffeur, cook, and volunteer for numerous activities related to her family. Alice also became a mother to Frank and Pam Auster, when her sister-in-law died, as well as a helping mom to her niece, Jean Lofland Gill. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Sunday, February 15, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Monday, February 16, 2015 from 9:00 am until the funeral service begins at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Istrouma Baptist Church, 10500 Sam Rushing Dr. Baton Rouge 70816; or to a charity of your choice . Alice's passing marks the last of the immediate family of Micajah M. and Halimah Cooley Hendry. She and all of her siblings were proud graduates of Istrouma High School and North Highland School.
