Alvin Lafayette Jones, Sr. passed from this life on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the age of 86. He was born July 7, 1924 in Wausau, Florida to Calvin and Annie (Taylor) Jones. Al married Emma Mae Bennett on January 3, 1945 in Lubbock, Texas. He gave his country 24 years of military service. After military retirement he was a correctional officer and then retired from the civil service.
Al was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Emma Jones. He is survived by one daughter, Linda Hurles; one son, Alvin Jones, Jr. and his wife Martha; two sisters, Dorothy Brantley and Earlene Robbins and her husband Gerald, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Al was a wonderful husband, dad, papa and great-granddad, brother, father-in-law, mason, fisherman, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation is from 5:00 pm to 8:00pm, Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop, Texas. The Funeral Service will be 10:00 am, October 4, 2010 at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop, Texas.
