Sylvia Lewis Rice

Sylvia Lewis Rice April 9, 1942 – April 3, 2019 Sylvia Irene Lewis Rice, 76, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Sovah Health in Martinsville, Virginia. She is survived by her two daughters, Debra Underwood (Max) and Lisa Humphreys (Gregg), both of High Point, NC, four grandchildren, Tammy Clark (Mike) of Bassett, VA, Trefyn Carter (Holly) of Trinity, NC, Ashley Ashby (Shane) of Madison, NC and Chadyn Carter of Charlotte, NC, two brothers, Jerry Lewis and Tony Lewis, both of Stella, VA, one sister, Joann Barbour of Bachelors Hall, VA and her longtime companion, Jack Perdue, of Wirtz, VA. She had six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Troy Lewis, mother, Forrest Lewis, brothers, Howard Lewis and Mack Lewis, son, David Rice and great granddaughter, Natalie Cannaday. Sylvia grew up in Stella, VA before moving to Martinsville where she waitressed at Ayers Sandwich Shop as well as several other jobs working with the public. She moved to Wirtz, VA over 30 years ago and worked in their local store where she enjoyed friendships with many of her customers. She always loved people and enjoyed getting to know everyone she met. Besides her family, her greatest love in her final years were her Chihuahuas, Scooter and Tanner. After a long journey with declining health, she is at peace and finally back with her parents, brothers and son. A cremation is planned and the family will receive visitors at Collins Funeral Home on Saturday, April 6 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, N.Y. 10016.
