She was born in Kansas City, Mo., on October 7, 1915 to Ernest John Morgan, Sr. and Louie Murphy Wright Morgan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Robert Ward “Bob” Armstrong and one brother, Ernest John Morgan, Jr.
During World War II she was employed by the E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company in various locations in the United States and in Martinsville. She later worked part-time for the Ferrum Veneer Corporation.
She served as organist of the Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church for 42 years, from 1945 until 1987. In 1992, she was elected organist emeritus by the church.
She was a member of the Bassett Garden Club and served as its president. For many years the club conducted an annual “bazaar” in Bassett to raise money for community and charitable purposes.
Surviving are her two sons, retired Judge Robert Morgan Armstrong of Bassett and former Delegate Ward Lynn Armstrong of Martinsville. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Robert Charles Armstrong, Courtney Lynn Armstrong and Whitney Akers Armstrong.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church, Bassett, with the Rev. Jim Hewitt officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville.
The family will receive friends from six to eight p.m. Friday at the church. In case of inclement weather the family will receive friends an hour before the funeral on Saturday at the church.
