Peggy Whitlock Chaney, 88, of Collinsville, VA, passed away June 17, 2016 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center. She was born on November 29, 1927, to O.C. and Dimple Tipton Hudson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Whitlock, and her second husband, Robert Chaney; brother, Elwin Hudson; sisters, Nancy Rieson and Buena Guinn.
Mrs. Chaney is survived by her sister, Bonnie Sacra of Hopewell, VA; brother, Jim Hudson and his wife, Doris of Fieldale, VA; son, Stephen Whitlock and his wife, Dorothy of Greenville, NC; daughter, Gail Combs and her husband, Gary of Martinsville, VA; beloved grandchildren, Stephanie Dicken and her husband, Eric of Greenville, NC and Sara Heath and her husband, Marc of Wilmington, NC; four great-grandchildren, Aaron and Emily Dicken and Anamarie and Isabela Heath; step-children, John and Ronnie Chaney of Martinsville, VA and Gary Chaney of Colorado; seven step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Chaney worked for many years in the textile industry of Henry County, including, DuPont, Lacy’s Manufacturing, Fieldcrest Mills, and Panill’s Knitting Factory. She had been on disability for several years but still remained active in church and local organizations such as Widow Persons, Senior Citizens, and Red Cross. Mrs. Chaney was currently a member of Fieldale United Methodist Church, but in her younger years she served as Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible school teacher and Youth leader at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church and Pleasant Grove Christian Church where she served as a deaconess. Mrs. Chaney’s faith in God and her love of family were most evident in her life and she will truly be missed by all the people whose lives she touched.
The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2016 at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett, VA with Pastor Tom Durrance officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett, VA and at other times at her home at 123 Cedar Point Drive, Collinsville, VA.
Flowers are welcomed, but if you choose, memorial donations may be made to either Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church or Fieldale United Methodist Church.
