Lucille Arthur Newman

Lucille Arthur Newman, of Bassett, left this world peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, November 16, 2015 in Martinsville. She was born November 19, 1933 in Pittsylvania County to Jack Arthur and Frances Doss Arthur Walker, both deceased.

Mrs. Newman retired from E.I. DuPont after 39 years of service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Elwood Newman and a granddaughter, Saige Bowman. She is survived by her sons, Ricky E. Newman (Rebecca) of Ridgeway and Dennis A. Newman (Kimberly) of Collinsville, two sisters, Fannie Ellis (George) of Roanoke and Gladys Long (Johnnie) of Hurt, a brother, Earl Arthur (Betty) of Bassett, two grandchildren, Elizabeth Roland (Bradley) of Ridgeway and Justin Bowman (Jessica) of Rocky Mount, four great-grandchildren, Peyton Roland, Austin Roland, Phoenix Bowman and Braylee Bowman, her best friend, Jackie Lavinder and her loving cat, Tinkerbell.

Special appreciation is expressed to Mrs. Newman’s wonderful caregivers, Kathy Shillings, Barbara Woodward and Veronica Via.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Collins Funeral Home Chapel, Bassett, VA on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 1:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Frank Newman, Jr. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral.

Interment will take place at Roselawn Burial Park.
