Shirley M. Harken was born in rural Bartonville on January 19, 1946. Her mother was Meta (Campen) Harken and her father was Rudolph “Rudy” Harken. She married Gerald “Gerry” Robinson of Bellevue on February 18, 1967 at St. John’s Lutheran. He survives.
Also surviving is their daughter Deanna (Omar) Ginder-West of Normal and their son Gregory Robinson of Peoria; one sister, Carol (Kenny) Johnson of Bartonville; two grandson, Luke Ginder and Colin Robinson; three granddaughters, Haleigh Ginder, Quinn and Avery Robinson; two step-grandsons, Devyn and Brandon West.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Deloris and Patricia.
She graduated from Limestone Community High School in Bartonville in 1964. She then went on to graduate from Mid-State Business School. She was hired by Caterpillar and worked for them for several years before working for what was then called Caterpillar Employees Federal Credit Union. She worked there as a teller and eventually worked in the Accounts Department in 2000.
She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Peoria.
Shirley also volunteered for Illinois CancerCare for fifteen years. She made probably hundreds of lap robes and afghans for Hospice and other charities.
