He was born November 28, 1929 in Washburn, IL to Thurman and Lena (Behrendes) Howard. He married Gwendolyn L. Strickler on April 7, 1973 in Brimfield, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are their two sons, David (Terryann) Howard of Farmington, IL and Daniel (Michele) Howard of Cypress, TX; five grandchildren, Ashley Howard, Paige (Tyler George) Howard, Brooke (Anthony) Abreu, Lauren (Katie Peterson) Howard and Robert Howard; and great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Lee Howard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and six sisters.
Robert worked for Keystone Steel and Wire for over 30 years retiring in 1979. He then worked for Davis Wire in Irwindale, CA from 1979 until 1989.
He was a member of Hanna City United Methodist Church, where he served as a Trustee and Finance Chairman. He was also a member of the Hanna City Sportsman Club, where he was Treasurer, and was a member of Joseph Robbins Masonic Lodge #930 A.F.& A.M., and Scottish Rite, Valley of Peoria.
Robert was a member of the Hanna City Village Board and also served as a Volunteer Fireman in Hanna City. He enjoyed coaching Little League in Hanna City for over 20 years, and in the summer he could be found watching baseball, sometimes listening on the radio at the same time, as he rooted on his favorite team the Yankees.
A funeral service will be on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 11:00 am with visitation from 9 am until the start of the service at the Hanna City United Methodist Church in Hanna City. Pastor Walter Wilkins will officiate. Entombment will follow the service at Swan Lake Memory Garden Mausoleum in Peoria. Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
