Raymond Robert Bowden Sr., 88, of West Peoria, Illinois, formerly of Bartonville, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Unity Point\Methodist Hospital in Peoria. He was born on December 13, 1928 in Peoria, Illinois to Henry D. and Bessie (Donaldson) Bowden. He married Helen A. DeVoss on February 11, 1949 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on February 4, 2006 in Bartonville. He is also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters and his aunt and uncle, Harry and Edna Donaldson whom raised him.
Surviving are two children, Raymond R. Bowden Jr. and Lynn (Kevin) Kerker both of Peoria; two grandchildren, Mark (Melissa) Bowden of Peoria and Angela Thompson of Pekin and three great grandchildren, Matthias, Moriah and Micah Bowden.
Raymond was a laborer working out of Laborers Local Union #165. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He loved to hunt, fish and hunt mushrooms and most of all spending time with his family. He was an avid CUBS fan.
The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff at Heddington Oaks, Independence Village and Unity Point\Methodist for their care and compassion during Raymond’s stay and illness.
Private family services will be held Saturday, October 21, 2017. Pastor Mark Schoenhals will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville. The Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel will be handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Research or to the Donor’s Choice.
