Lester Paul Sutton, 91, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Liberty Village of Peoria. He was born on June 7, 1925 in Mapleton, Illinois to Sylvester and Nancy (Haynes) Sutton. Lester married Wilma J. Uphoff on January 23, 1954 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Glasford, Illinois.
Lester is survived by his wife Wilma of 62 years; sister-in-law, Irma Uphoff and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
He was a member of the Stationery Operating Engineers Local 8/399 for over 40 years, working at the Jefferson Hotel, Hiram Walker Distillery and Illinois American Water Company, retiring in 1989. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Coast Guard serving from 1942 to 1946. Lester was a member of the Lancaster Masonic Lodge 106, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria, Mohammed Shrine, Elks Lodge #20 of Peoria, and Past President of the Bartonville Lions Club. After retiring he and his wife enjoyed 24 years wintering in the Texas Rio Grande Valley. Lester loved to go mushroom hunting, fishing in Minnesota and golfing. He was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church of Glasford.
Wilma would like to thank the dedicated staff and caregivers at Liberty Village and Harbor Lights Hospice for their excellent care given to Lester.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel. The Rev. Harlan Kayden will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral chapel. Private burial services will be at the St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery.
