John was born May 26, 1938 in St. Louis, MO to Jesse and Inez (Boland) McFarland. He married Sandy Klerner in 1963. She survives.
Also surviving are three children: son; Michael (Rick Proctor) McFarland of Arlington, IL, daughters; Michelle (Khalid) Elghayesh of Cincinnati, OH, Heather Shafer of Glasford, IL; three siblings: sister; Sandra (Dale) Brown of Farmington, Mo, brothers; Ray McFarland of Logan, OH , Gerald McFarland of Kansas City, MO, and two grandchildren; Drake and Savannah Shafer of Glasford, IL.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Brother; Robert McFarland and grandson; Louden Shafer.
John served in the United States Marine Corps as a lithographer. He then went on to work for Caterpillar as a mechanic, and retired from Cat after 33 years in 2003.
John loved all types of cars, especially British cars. He enjoyed spending time around his home doing many different projects. John also enjoyed woodworking, and could nearly construct anything he put his mind to.
A Memorial Service for John will be held Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 4:00 PM at Davison-Fulton-Bartonville Chapel, Pastor Walter Wilkins will officiate.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of John may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
