Dear Sandy, Mike, Michelle and Heather & families,  We are so sorry for your loss, but are sure the Lord is happy with His gain.  We have so many great memories of our families growing up together and taking  Woodruff by storm.   Due to a niece's wedding at the Glen Oak Park Botanical Gardens on Saturday at 5 PM,  we cannot attend the memorial service for John, but our hearts and prayers will be with you all. So very sorry to read of JJ's passing. I haven't seen him for many years but was his nurse in Medical in Bldg B.  He and his buddy(can't remember name right now but saw him in several of the pictures) were in many times joking with me.  I truly enjoyed him.  He was a Nice, Nice man.  I met up with him when our daughters graduated and received the Sterling Merit Award.  Very surprised he left Peoria since that home was his ongoing homework project.  I really pray his passing was peaceful and give my sympathy to Sandy and his family.  Thank you for the pictures.

Sandy and family I am truly sorry for loss of a wonderful man John. I remember the first time I met all you and the times over at your home growing. And glad to have seen you guys in December looks like we might need to find other ways to getting together other sad occasions.

John was a wonderful and fun person. I will always think of your family as an extension of mine - especially growing up in the neighborhood together.  Michelle - I still remember that we were convinced that your dad built that garage just for us to have our 'disco' parties in.  Our love to you all.

My Grandfather was a fighter.  He was not ready to go, but he knew where he was going.  Heaven!  My grandfather had faith and wrote prayers often.  Even when times got tough, he would never give up.  We all think our grandpa made the right choices.  Our grandpa was always very alert.  Even when John heard people writing him off, he never gave up and kept his hopes up, which is a good thing for this situation.  We all loved him. John was a very good person.  My deepest condolences for my family.  I hope everything will be okay, and I hope that we, as a family, will get better.  Rest well grandpa! See you real soon!

I spent countless nights during my high school years at the McFarland house. I will always remember John sitting in his recliner in the corner of the living room watching and laughing at our antics. He and Sandy always welcomed all of us into their home and provided us with many memories to cherish. I will always remember his kindness, smile, and laugh. We shared a special fondness for one another and I will always treasure it. My prayers and thoughts to the family. I love you all!

We will miss you, dear friend.  We have so many wonderful memories of our times together from sitting and having a cup of coffee (and maybe just a little dessert) to going on vacations together. There is an empty place in our hearts today.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  John was a kind and wonderful man with such an easy going manner.  Out of habit I still look toward the cafe at Barnes and Noble expecting to see him sitting there.  I know you will all miss him so much!  My heart and thoughts  are with all of you!

My grandfather John McFarland was a very great grandfather . He worked on a lot of projects for me Savannah Shafer and my great brother Drake Shafer. When me and my mom stayed the night with my grandpa my mom woke up at 6:00 and saw that my grandpa John was up . She asked him how long he was up for and he said since four o'clock AM . my mother then said to him what were you doing up for so long and early for. my grandpa said that he was working on projects in his head . I remember when he would paint my toenails and help me if i had a splinter in my finger . He was a very good person . i dont think anyone could have a better grandfather than him .LOVE YOU GRANDPA SEE YOU SOON LOVE SAVANNAH YOUR GRANDDAUGHTER

Mr Mcfarland was Funny and Friendly and a great role model to look up to growing up! Heaven has received a wonderful angel. RIP

Sandy and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I have such wonderful memories of your dad, his laugh, smile and his recliner. Loved the photos and the walk down memory lane. He loved you all so much as it is evident in the photos and we all know how much he loved your mom (Sandy). Such a wonderful example of a husband and father.
