Bill graduated from the Cincinnati College of Embalming and was a licensed mortician in Alabama. He later began a long career of over 30 years with Singer Sewing Machine Co.
as District Manager. In that capacity, he saw much of the Southeastern US; working in Macon, Birmingham, Atlanta, Augusta, Memphis, and Ft. Lauderdale. He later became a gemologist and worked in jewelry sales for Bob Richards Jewelry. There he made many lifelong friends with associates and customers.
He was an avid horticulturist raising orchids and azaleas. His childhood days on a farm led him to own several hobby farms with beef cattle and fields of hay and clover.
His greatest loves in life were his wife of 68 years, Miriam, his 4 children, 3 granddaughters, his church life at Church of Christ, and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick Roberts and Lucille Reece; his wife, Miriam Annulette Tarter Roberts; sisters Joann Bachelor and Linda Kite; and his brothers Fred Roberts and Burton Roberts. He is survived by his brother Edwin Roberts and stepbrother Emmett “Buddy” Reece and stepsister Rebecca Hensley.
His children are Will M.Roberts, Richard J. Roberts, N. Lowell Roberts, and Carol Ann Roberts Byrd. His grandchildren are CassieRoberts Alexander, Carson Byrd, and Christina Byrd. His great-grandchildren are, Malachi Alexander, Nadia Alexander, and Kiera Alexander
The family will receive friends on Sunday November 4, 2018 from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. with funeral services to be held at 2:30 p.m. all in the chapel of Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, Tennessee 38133, with interment to follow.
