Monte “Joe” Barrow, 78, of Memphis, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, January 5, 2023. He was born October 12, 1944, the son of the late Monte and Zelma Ryan Barrow of Paragould, AR. He was also preceded in death by his half sister Bernita Barrow and half brothers Mancefield Barrow and Charles Northen. Joe was a graduate of Paragould High School and Arkansas State University. He is survived by the love of his life for over 51 years, Patsy Adams Barrow, his children, Heather (Jeff) Bryant, MJ (Katheryn) Barrow, and Ryan Barrow, his five grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
After graduation from college, he worked for the bank examiners office. He spent several years at Pennaco Hosiery before joining M.S. Carriers in 1982. He retired after 20 years of service as their Chief Financial Officer, board Secretary-Treasurer. He spent 12 years on the EdR Board of Directors since its initial public offering. He also owned Dieco Products. He was smart, hard working, honest, loyal, generous, and stood for what was right regardless the cost.
Being an avid golfer, he was a long time member and former President of Colonial Country Club. The Barrow Cup is still a coveted prize annually. In his younger years some of his favorite memories are hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He shared his love of fishing with his grandchildren and were some of his favorite times with them. God and family were always first and foremost in his priorities. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends.
The Family will receive friends from 9:30-10:25 a.m. and the Mass Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., all services will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church in Cordova TN, on Thursday, January 12, 2023. A reception will follow in the Parish Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in his memory to Madonna Learning Center from where his son, Ryan, graduated, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
