James F. Smith, 90, was born May 2, 1924 in Mason Hall, TN and died April 24, 2015. Jim served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired from Buckeye Cellulose where he worked for many years. Jim loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Cherokee Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and taught his beloved Sunday School class for 55 years. Jim is survived by his wife Joyce S. Smith of Bartlett, his daughter Gail Hammack (Rodney) of Memphis, his step-children Sandra Calvary (Larry), Larry Shackelford (Beverly), and Joyce Kellum (Bill) all of Bartlett. His grandchildren Rebekah Bishop, Shannon Wynne (Matthew), Ben Shackelford (Ashley), Eric Calvary, Jacob Shackelford (Amy) and Will Kellum. His great-grandchildren Elijah, Gabbi, and Judah Wynne, Bailey, Hank, and Jacey Shackelford. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and six brothers. He has one surviving brother, Jerry Smith of Jackson, TN. He is also preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Smith and daughter Leisa Bishop. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Crossroads Hospice and the staff at Spring Gate Nursing Home for all their special care. The family welcomes all for the sharing of stories and memories on Sunday, April 26 from 3 – 5pm at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. Mr. Smith’s funeral service will be Monday, April 27 at 10:00am also at the funeral home.
