Mary "Helen" Breland Wyatt, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 28, 2021. Helen was born on December 31, 1929, in Webb, MS to the late Everett and Mary Breland. She has been reunited in heaven with her husband of 63 years, Paul Wyatt, Sr.; her daughter, Susan Huffman; her parents, and her brother, Elvin “Bud” Breland. Helen is remembered by her son, Paul “Butch” Wyatt, Jr.; her son-in-law, Donnie Huffman; her grandchildren Lauren (Jeremy) Walker and Kyle (Corinne) Huffman, and her two great-grandchildren, Owen Walker and Lorelai Huffman, who were both born in 2020. Helen is also remembered by her brother David Breland and her sisters: Ruth Powell, Gladys Davis and Louise Hill, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Helen was a devoted member of Colonial Baptist Church and proudly served as their Nursery and Preschool Director for many years. She loved working with children, leading VBS and playing handbells. Helen loved music and playing piano, and admiring the beauty of God’s creation through gardening and watching birds, especially hummingbirds. A retired bookkeeper, Helen enjoyed staying busy by keeping things neat and organized. She also enjoyed puzzles, making others laugh and playing games like Dominoes. Helen loved watching Shirley Temple movies and rarely missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune. Helen had a true heart of service and willingly helped her family, friends and church family with any event – always arriving early and staying late to help clean. Helen was a devoted wife to Paul from their wedding on September 1, 1956, until his death in October 2019. She was also a loving and generous mother, sister, grandmother and friend. In recent years, Helen enjoyed spending time with her new friends at Ave Maria Home and continued serving by helping her fellow residents when she could.
A graveside service will be held for Helen on Thursday, September 2nd at 11am at Memphis Funeral Home and Gardens. The service will be officiated by Randy Bennett from Colonial Baptist Church. A celebration of life will be held in Spring 2022.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Helen’s memory be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association or Ave Maria Home. Also, we ask that you honor Helen’s memory by providing a small act of kindness and service to someone around you and that you take a moment to thank God as you admire a flower or listen to birds sing.
