George Taylor Isabel, Jr. passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on December 22, 1929, to the late Ethel H. Isabel and George Taylor Isabel, Sr., George lived a long and fulfilling life, always devoted to his faith, family and career.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret (Peggy) Isabel, and his children, Daryl K. Isabel, Ronald Taylor Isabel, and Cheryl Isabel. George is survived by three daughters who will cherish his memory: Veva Isabel, Meryl Isabel, and Gina Isabel. He also leaves behind his sister, Dr. Josephine Isabel - Jones, and brother-in-law, Earl Jones, a daughter-in-law, Melanie Isabel, as well as five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and neighbors who will all mourn his passing.
George attended Booker T. Washington High School, where he played tenor saxophone in the school band, a passion he carried with him throughout his life. He later attended Tennessee State University before embarking on a career with the U.S. Postal System. George worked diligently as a postal clerk for many years and received numerous awards throughout his career, retiring in 1989.
A quiet, family-oriented man, George loved his family tremendously. In his early years, he enjoyed gardening and watching football with the love of his life, Peggy. He was a man of great faith, who read his Daily Word and Bible daily. For over 70 years, George was a faithful member of Mt. Pisgah C.M.E. Church, where he found great spiritual fulfillment.
A graveside service to celebrate George's life will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Memphis, TN, 38133.
George will be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and deep love for his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
