Cynthia was born on 23 August 1961 to Eugene and Rebecca James in Memphis, Tennessee. After Cynthia graduated from Elliston Academy in 1979 she started her first job at Holiday Inn River Mount as a night audit clerk.
In 1988, Cynthia met Jeffrey Shumate in Memphis and later married in June 1990. Cynthia and Jeffrey went on to have 3 children: May, Patrick and Zachary.
In 2017, Cynthia retired from the Collierville Town Hall and spent her time at home with her dogs and cats. She passed the time traveling and helping Jeffrey with home decorating and remodeling.
Cynthia was preceded by her Father-in-law, Jesse Shumate and her Mother-in-law, Wilma Shumate.
Cynthia is survived by father Eugene James, mother Rebecca James, husband Jeffrey Shumate, brother Daniel James, sister Renae Howell, sons Patrick and Zachary, and daughter May. She is survived by several loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A gathering of family and friends for Cynthia will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church, 507 New Byhalia Rd, Collierville, TN 38017, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. Burial will be private.
