August 24, 1943 – December 14, 2024
Betty Jean Saltz, 81, of Byhalia, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024. Born on August 24, 1943, Betty was the daughter of Edward Wallis Sr. and Helen Mae Wallis, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her brother, Edward "Butch" King Jr., and her beloved daughter, Teresa "Terri" Odom, who passed away in 1997.
Betty retired after 30 years of dedicated service in the Customer Service Department at FedEx. She was a kind and caring person who deeply enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially her love for dogs. Her little mutt mix, "Tinker," was a constant source of joy and companionship for her in her later years.
Betty will be fondly remembered by her surviving family members, including her brother, Charles Wallis, two grandsons, Chris Odom and Marc Odom, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and many other extended family members who will miss her deeply.
In addition to her family, Betty leaves behind her dear longtime best friend, Mary Sellers, with whom she shared countless sweet memories and a bond that spanned many years.
A funeral service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Friday, December 20th, 2024, at One O’clock in the afternoon at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, with burial to follow. Visitation will take place from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, prior to service time. All who knew Betty are invited to join her family in honoring her memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all who provided love and support during Betty’s lifetime and especially during her final days.
