Anna was born October 14, 1924, in Memphis TN, the daughter of Hubert Blandford and Grace Anna Leatherwood.
After graduation, Anna (Anne) married James Austin Baker, on Dec 8, 1942. The following day, the Navy seaman reported to duty to a destroyer, then subchaser to fight in the war in the Pacific. It would be 2 years before she saw him again.
Anna, in the meanwhile, worked in a factory to help in the war effort.
She was a long-standing member of Cordova Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Homemaker’s Club which sponsored many youths with scholarships, training, and camps. When her children were growing up she was also active with 4-H, showing cows, arts and crafts, cooking and sewing.
Anna enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, canning, and cooking. She made it a tradition to sew a pair of satin pillowcases for each child, grandchild, and family member as a wedding present. Memaw also made a baby blanket to welcome each child born in the family. She loved her family and will be blessed with two more great grandchildren in the coming months.
Anna came from a large family of 10 children so loving and caring for family came naturally to her as she said being the next to oldest child she always had a baby on her hip. Christmas family get togethers grew in size with her hosting many of them throughout the years.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband James A. Baker and her daughter Becky Baker (who was only 13), 3 brothers Buddy, Lynn, Boo and 4 sisters Elaine, Celia, Bonnie and Janie.
Anna is survived by one brother, Larry Leatherwood of MS and one sister, Margaret Morton of OR ; 3 Children: Barbara Harrell (Kenny) of Union MO, Jim Baker (Judy) of Cordova TN, Yvonne Baker of Cordova, TN, 9 Grandchildren: Michelle Schimweg, Madelyn Corber, Angelo Joyner, Austin and Lawson Baker, Becky Crucifixio, Rachel Baker, Nicole Conner and Bonnie Padberg, 12 Great Grandchildren: Rikki Cummings, Kylee Corber, Eisley Joyner, James and Asher Baker, Dante Crucifixio, Madison and Alex Conner, Gabriel Baker, Nathaniel Blankenship, Ivy and Marisa Padberg, 2 Great Great grandchildren: Kinlee Ann and Lennon Rose Cummings.
