Born in Little Falls, Minnesota, he was the 8th of 10 children born to Rose and Alfred Sauer Sr. Alfred joined the Army in October 1965, served in Korea and was honorably discharged in October 1971 as a Sergeant. He earned his GED and went on to attend Barstow Community College. He earned a certificate in Administration of Justice in June 1978. He also received an Associate of Arts Degree in June 1978. Alfred married Rosemaria Abeyta on June 6, 1975 and together they had four children. After his years in the service, Alfred worked a brief time at the Sante Fe Railroad. Alfred worked at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Barstow, CA as a Heavy Mobile Mechanic and leader. He retired in 2003 after 31 years of service.
Alfred was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed watching old shows such as Bonanza, Gunsmoke, The Andy Griffith Show, and I Love Lucy. Alfred liked playing cards and going to the casino to play poker. He loved reminiscing about the old days of growing up on a farm in Minnesota and listening to prime country music.
Alfred is survived by his daughters, Terri Sauer, Kimberly Miller (Jason), and Kathleen Lillard (Kenny), grandchildren, Jennifer Spiteri (husband-RJ Spiteri), Carter Miller, Brooke Miller, Aubrey Matthews, Arianna Matthews, and Jack Lillard, sister Maxine Skiba, and brothers Maurice “Gene” Sauer and Gilbert Sauer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Sauer Sr. and Rose Sauer, his wife, Rosemaria Sauer, son, David Sauer, sisters Alice Shoberg, Louene Prokosch, Marianne Holewa, Betty Brown, Virginia Rezac, and brother Greg Sauer.
The rosary and funeral service will be held on May 6, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 10:30am. A graveside service will be held following the funeral at Mt. View Cemetery. Following the services, there will be a reception at the Miller home. All are welcomed to attend.
