It is with great sadness that the family of Eileen Patterson, announce her sudden passing on September 23, 2023 at the age of 89. Eileen was born July 17, 1934 in Barrhead, to Jack and Luella Patterson, their 4th child and only daughter. Eileen grew up on the farm in Roselea, attending Roselea School. Following her schooling Eileen remained on the farm helping with chores and raising turkeys for a time. In 1955 Eileen along with her mother both contracted polio, they were hospitalized for some time in Edmonton. Eileen was able to recover quite well and in 1959 she went to work for the summer in Jasper at Tekkana Lodge. But the farm was Eileen’s passion, and stayed farming through the years, with the help of her brother Glen, raising horned Herford cattle, with a border collie always by her side. In 2019 Eileen broke her hip, and after convalescing in hospital, she was able to return to her home on the farm, with the help of family members. However, in 2020 she re broke that same hip, requiring more hospitalization and rehab. As the family was no longer in the position to continue with her care, she was once again at home on the farm, with the help of Marsh and staff. This allowed Eileen 3 more years in her own home, in north Roselea. Eileen is survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Verla and Joyce, many cousins, nephews and nieces. Eileen was predeceased by her dad, Jack (1965) Mom, Luella (1970), and her 3 brothers, Glen (2007), Don (2019), Gordon (2023) and beloved sister-in-law, Marie (2015). If a song could define someone’s life, Eileen’s would be “I did it my way”.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on Friday, October 20th at the Roseglen Cemetery at 1 Pm, with a luncheon to follow at the seniors drop in center in Barrhead for all those wishing to attend. Donations in Eileen’s memory will be gratefully accepted by the Roseglen cemetery.
