Mary, a long time resident of East Baltimore, was born and raised in Highlandtown. She moved to Dundalk in her 90’s. Mary was a longtime employee of Baltimore City and spent most of her career as a cafeteria manager for the Baltimore City school system. She loved to cook. Her last assignment was as the cafeteria manager at Patterson High School on Kane Street. She maintained that position for nearly 20 years. After retirement, Mary became an avid seamstress. She always kept a busy schedule. Besides sewing classes and cooking at the senior center, Mary still found time to devote several days a week as a volunteer at Baltimore City Hospital gift shop.
Mary will be missed by her family and the many friends she has developed over her 102 year life span.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.
Mary was married to the late Stanley Peterson. She is survived by her two sons, Dennis Peterson of Dundalk, Maryland and Stanley Peterson and his wife Jeanette Erhardt Peterson of Clearwater, Florida ; three grandchildren, Stephen Peterson, Christine Peterson and the late Kelly Wofford; four great grandchildren, Steve Peterson, Michael Peterson, Emily Verkauf and Christopher Kikas. Other family members include her brother Joseph Ciofani of Parkton, Maryland and the late Grace Espisito and Mildred Diseta.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Gilchrist Hospice of Towson ay www.gilchristcares.org. With their help, Mary was provided quality health care and constant professional medical treatment.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Charles S. Zeiler Funeral Home, 6224 Eastern Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21224, on Sunday, August 4, 2024 from 2-4 P.M., with a Celebration of Life service to begin at 4 P.M. Interment services are private.
