Verlaine “Lyn” Janet Schneider (Mathews) was born on December 20, 1932 to Emmanuel David and Katherine Jamina Mathews in Lakeview, Michigan and had 3 sisters - Arlyle, Derita, and Jacqueline. She was preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters, Her Granddaughter Tawney her husband David, and her son Richard. She is survived by her daughter Doreen (Stephen), Paula (Greg), David Jr. (Krista), daughter-in-law Janie, 10 grandchildren – Shaun (Deann), Ryan, Amanda, Joey, Sable (Katy), Jennifer (Anton), Lexus (Michael), Nathaniel (Cynthia), David, and Timothy – along with many great-grandchildren.
Lyn graduated from Ann Arbor Senior High School on June 4, 1951. She then briefly attended Alma College. She married David Roy Schneider on June 2, 1956 and gave birth to 4 children. She began her career at the University of Michigan Hospital as an admissions clerk and later transitioned to a dialysis technician in the new dialysis unit. David and Lyn moved the family in 1971 to Portage, Michigan to assist Dr. Owen Haig in establishing a dialysis unit at Borgess Hospital, while Lyn also started classes for her nursing degree. In 1973, the family moved to Bakersfield, California to assist Dr. Haig with the creating and opening of a dialysis unit at Mercy Hospital. Lyn continued her college classes and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1977 from California State College Bakersfield, now CSUB. She would continue to work in the health care industry as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital, Kern Medical Center, Memorial Hospital, and within the Kern County Public Health Department. She completed her nursing career by working for Optimal Home Health Care administering medications to the clients at SVS Bakersfield Adult Day Care Center. After retiring from her nursing career, Lyn then volunteered at the Kern County Superior Court as a volunteer receptionist. She also became a member of the Kern County Grand Jury for the 2018-2019 session.
Throughout her career and after, Lyn maintained multiple hobbies, including quilting, stained glass window making, traveling, creating Neon Racing with her son David with “Wild One and Wild One II” in mud bogg races, and spending time with her children and grandchildren at Pismo Beach annually. Among her many accomplishments, Lyn went sky diving and completed the Sydney Bridge climb in Sydney, Australia.

Verlaine Janet Schneider, age 91, of Bakersfield, California passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024.
A graveside service for Verlaine will be held Monday, July 1, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Funeraria Del Angel Hillcrest, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
