She attended Bakersfield High School, Bakersfield College, and Federico's Beauty College. It was there that she found her passion for hair and beauty. Sharon became a licensed cosmetologist in 1967 and went on to do hair from her shop located in the back of her parents house in Bakersfield. She attended Barbizon Modeling School and modeled professionally in various shows across the country. Sharon competed in Miss Kern County Beauty Pageant and was crowned 3rd runner up in the pageant.
In 1970, Sharon was hired by Eastern Airlines as a flight attendant and was based in New Orleans, LA. From there, she got married and had two daughters, Nadia and Seneca and she left the airlines and began working for Amtrak, where she retired after 31 years of service. Throughout her life, Sharon enjoyed attending church, as she was an ordained minister, spending time with her family, traveling, cooking, baking, and creating various projects with her hands.
Sharon's community activism has spanned over 40 years collaborating with a variety of local churches, community groups, and professional associations in an effort to focus on health and wellness, beauty, training in social and life skills, and educational awareness for African American youth in both Bakersfield and Los Angeles, California. She founded a variety of creative businesses including Stand Straight School of Etiquette, an etiquette school that taught etiquette, social graces, and life skills to young girls and women. In her later years, she focused her attention on one of her many gifts, creating custom mosaic mirrors from glass in which she called, Broken Pieces.
In retirement, Sharon enjoyed spending time with her daughters, son-in-laws, granddaughter and grandson. She also enjoyed spending time with the dogs Hank and Bruce, feeding and caring for them. She loved God and her family and wanted everyone she met to know the Lord.
Sharon's vibrant spirit brought laughter and smiles to every person she touched. From funny stories, to jokes, her charismatic nature always created a safe and loving environment for those she loved. Sharon's earthly body is no longer with us, but her vivacious and caring soul will shine forever in our hearts.
